See here and here for what is going on in the Mormon church right now and why it is important. The following is a list of words that are meaningful to me this week in light of this action against honest questioners in the Mormon church, specifically the possible excommunication for two lay members who sought for greater inclusion for and understanding toward women and LGBTQ members of the church. Charges of apostasy and heresy in the Mormon church have severe social (and spiritual) consequences, particularly if you live in Utah and particularly if you have family members who are also Mormon.
Obviously one could as easily pull out words like "liar" or "lividity" out of the dictionary to describe what's happened, but the following list connotes at least in part some of the emotions I've felt as I've watched this drama unfold. Every member of a religious society must be allowed space in which to question openly and honestly without being shamed into silence, vilified, shunned, or excommunicated for raising honest and pertinent questions.
